A forgotten region, feeding my country (Karamoja)

My Cultural Wear as  A Karimojong (JEMO)

Did you know my Karamoja region is poorly developed with all it has?
Let's find out...

Karamoja is a place located in the northeastern part of a country located and found on the horn of the African continent, my country is also referred to as the "Pearl of Africa" and is also a landlocked country geographically. Karamoja has nine (9) districts in total and is divided into Northern and Southern Karamoja. Northern Karamoja comprises Karenga in the far north, Kaabong, Kotido, and Abim districts while Northern comprises Amudat from the far south, Nakapiripirit, Nabilatuk, Napak, and Moroto which is the first district in Karamoja in the East.

Karamoja despite the different challenges and problems talked about has got all it takes to maintain the human race in it. We have several minerals (52) in the region with vast land comprised of different topography and rich with wild nature ranging from the fauna to the flora which makes it ideal for the tourism industry. Karamoja is also blessed with several mountains and hills which makes it ideal for wildlife with a variety of trees, birds, wild animals, and vegetation cover ranging from savannah grasslands located in the different parts of the region. Karamoja also consists of only one tribe with one language despite the different dialects in each of the clusters. In Karamoja, our language is rich and equated to the cultures and norms left to us by our grandparents which makes us stand out in Uganda and the world at large as one of the best and maintaining tribes of their culture.

Karamoja (my region) is one of the regions in the country with high poverty levels proved by the poor roads, poor living standards, and limited health facilities which are poorly stocked with drugs and staff, Karamoja despite the wealth of the different minerals we have and the fertile vast land is still underdeveloped though we contribute towards the country's Gross Domestic Income (GDP) through the tourism fares got from tourists visiting the region daily from different parts of the world, minerals are taken from my region and which we whose lands are affected do not know what their value is. Our lands have been affected by the exploration of these minerals and our animals including people die in the process. Companies acquire licenses that we do not even see but are evicted from our own land in the name of "order from above" leaving our people landless and nowhere to go since the government doesn't look at it as a critical problem to solve.

Karamoja with all the above, a large number of people are living in absolute poverty with most times no meal a day poor health services, and insecurity in the region, I personally think Karamoja is its own country but no we are in Uganda the pearl of Africa... We as Karimojong have gotten used to it that way... God forbid we all die in the state the region is!!!
